Civility, normality, and global supply chains depend on massive quantities of people dying absurd and pointless deaths. It is constant and hypernormal while simultaneously denied or narrated as inconsequential and justified. Seeking death autonomy under these conditions can feel absurd too, as we are generally denied basic autonomy over life. All is in tension with the urgency of staying alive for oneself and meeting the needs of people around us, many of whom do not feel such disgust and contempt for capitalist imperialist colonial white supremacist hegemony.
Even if your loved one's desires are products of this world, why would you deny fulfilling their wishes in their time of death, when they are in a state of dependence? I have bought meat for a sick person and acted like it was as neutral as air. My heart drops. I digest myself. It is no one's fault. It is everyone's fault. It's as sickening as any other purchase.
The highly mundane ways that humans kill animals, i.e.: those considered to be less than human. The humanist society we have now wouldn't function without limitlessly exploitable and expendable animal populations. Links with information to follow.
